Here is one more little secret about artists and sculptors that most people don't know. The "party line" is that all works of art are based on some noble concept, some carefully plotted hypothesis, some need to express. Well... not always. A whole lot of the time, we would be more akin to Stephen King's principal for creating a new book: WHAT IF?
You see it a lot nowadays. An artist attempting to create a new artform by amassing 400,000 jelly beans and using those as his pixels. Or, in the case of Jeff Koons, "What if I just take a balloon dog, made from two twisted up balloons...and blow it up to ten feet high?" (It's actually really cool looking...but noble premise? Nah. Pyramid study resulted from a tiny question in my brain that asked, "Hey, how could you make a wall sculpture that looks one color if you approach it from the left, another color if you approach it from the right, and totally weird when you view it from the front? It works!
